Nursi on Theodicy and the Problem of Evil

The problem of evil has occupied the minds of theologians and intellectuals for centuries, asking the question, “If God is all-powerful and God is all-loving, how can evil exist in the world?” These questions, and the various answers proposed throughout our human history, contribute to the ever-widening philosophical field of theodicy, the study of the problem of evil. Many people believe that the question has not yet been satisfactorily answered. The writings of Bediüzzaman Said Nursi offer a unique perspective on this question, however, which may cast some light both on the Islamic view of God and the long-standing human question of the problem of evil.
