Polluting Pristine Religion: A Theological Discussion on Islam and Terrorism

Since the era of the Enlightenment, religion has become a center of tension in the West.  In the Islamic world, religion remained a dominant power, despite the great influence of modernity.  The tension between religion on one side and secularism and materialism on the other side continued in the West as well as in the Islamic world.  Debates were going on to determine whether religion was the source of stagnation in comparison to modern technology, or the source of violence in comparison to peace.  These debates have not yet ceased; they are still going on.  We have witnessed two world wars that cost the lives of almost 1/4th of humanity.  The statistics suggest that over 100 million people lost their lives.  Such devastating, catastrophic events can be called a collective suicide of Europe.
